Relive bond of friendship with 'London Dreams'

Massive stage settings, rock concerts and music as a binding factor, Ajay Devgn-Salman Khan starrer "London Dreams", which releases Friday, relies on the bond of friendship more than its rock background.
Produced and directed by Vipul Shah, the movie stars Asin Thottumkal in the female lead, while Akshay Kumar will be seen in a cameo. Rannvijay Singh and Om Puri too feature in the movie.

" London Dreams' is a drama about two friends and their relationships, their roles, individuality and problems," Ajay said.

Added Asin: "It is a musical with a lot of emotions and twists in the story. But it's something that heavily relies on music."

Shot extensively in Paris and London, the story revolves around childhood friends Arjun (Ajay) and Mannu (Salman) who have a music lineage in their family history.

Arjun dreams of being on stage as a performer to live up to his grandfather's unfulfilled ambitions while Mannu has little interest in the instruments of his father, a music teacher.

Arjun's determination takes him to London where he forms a band with Priya (Asin) and others. But his friend Mannu tries to make his livelihood as a wedding band performer in the village.

Arjun eventually invites Mannu to London to complete his band contrary to his own belief that the latter can create a competition.

But Mannu surprises him by turning out to be an entertainer. With his unique style, he becomes more popular with the audiences leaving Arjun envious. His insecurity increases when he realises Priya is smitten by Mannu.

The band embarks on a three-city tour where Arjun deceives Mannu into promiscuous sex and illicit drugs. As the tour concludes, the band heads to London to perform at Wembley Stadium where Mannu comes to senses and chooses the righteous path and supports his friend.

"London Dreams" has managed a good buzz, courtesy the big names associated with it.

Noteworthy is that the songs in the movie have been shot like live concerts.

The movie is releasing with another-big budget venture "Aladin".

Blue: Hindi Movie Review

What is the USP of Bollywood’s latest offering “Blue“? The prompt answer to that would be underwater shots, great action sequences and Kylie Minogue. The international “Showgirl” makes her debut [as a musical guest] in to the Bollywood scene with the underwater action caper, which is the bigest novelty of the film.

Apart from that, “Blue” most certainly has an international feel to it, as it has promised throughout. It includes some of the best shot underwater sequences that has ever graced the screen. Even pre-release, a lot of hype had been created about the venture because of its claim of being India’s first underwater action flick.

The ensemble cast boasts of a list of biggies from the Bollywood industry like Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Zayed Khan and Lara Dutta. The present flavor of the industry, Katrina Kaif also makes an appearance in the film, in a small cameo and manages to scorch the screen considerably. Going by the looks of it, this Diwali release is certainly set to hit the jackpot, as it makes for a wholesome package of entertainment.

“Blue” is the story of an expedition that is led to unearth the treasure that lies in the deep end of the sea and is guarded by deadly sharks. The adventurous journey is initiated by a super rich Aarav Malhotra (Akshay Kumar) and includes his friend Sagar (Sanjay Dutt). Also accompanying them are Sagar’s brother Sam (Zayed Khan) and girlfriend Mona (Lara Dutta). As they go about their expedition, the audience is thrown in to a world of breathtaking underwater scenic beauty and adrenalin pumping action.

For Salman’s show, Preity was the cheerleader

Bollywood actress Preity Zinta played the role of a perfect cheerleader for dear friend Salman Khan whose “Being Human” show at the ongoing HDIL India Couture Week here late Tuesday saw many celebrities strutting down the ramp.

Dressed in a “Being Human” sleeveless T-shirt and sporting a new look with fringes falling perfectly on her forehead, the actress looked as ravishing as ever.

Sitting with her friend choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan and fashion designer Manish Malhotra, the actress started shouting from the very first moment when Salman Khan started the show and sashayed down the ramp.

“Wow! Salman! Salman!,” shouted Zinta and continued clapping till he left the ramp.

It was not just for Salman, she also cheered for other celebrities like Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Govinda, Sanjay Dutt, Katrina Kaif, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan with equal enthusiasm.

Farah Khan and Manish Malhotra joined her and together left no stone unturned to pep up the atmosphere.

“I must tell you that my throat is already gone. I was so happy that all this shouting and cheering just happened. The show was all about being human and being together. It celebrated togetherness of the industry and this is what had me do all the shouting. But it is worth it,” Preity said after the show.

Commenting on Aamir Khan’s ramp debut, she said that the actor looked cute.

“I think he was looking very cute on the ramp. He is already so charming and you can’t take that away from him,” she said.

A kiss on forehead, from Helen to Salma Khan

This was a spontaneous gesture. The moment three brothers Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan walked hand-in-hand on the ramp, stepmother Helen kissed their real mom Salma Khan on her forehead to cherish the moment of togetherness.

The magical moment came during Salman’s “Being Human” show on the second day of the HDIL India Couture Week.

“It was spontaneous. I didn’t know what came to my mind at that moment. But it was a very proud moment for the family and just to share that moment of togetherness, I kissed Salma on her forehead,” Helen said.

This was the first time that the whole Khan family had made a public appearance together. With Salma and Helen sitting next to each other and their daughter-in-law Malaika Arora Khan and daughter Arpita cheering for all of them in the audience, the family bonding was at its peak.

“Today we had everyone here except for my father, who I am sure is sitting somewhere up above and watching us and it is him who has guided me to take this path and come up with this fashion show,” said Salman Khan.

“It is an incredible and memorable moment for me,” he added.

At the end of the show, the three brothers pushed their mothers Salma and Helen respectively to walk the ramp with them.

For Salman’s charity “Being Human” show, the Bollywood industry had come in full support with as many as 10 celebrities walking the ramp and many sitting in the audience to cheer for them.

The show saw the ramp debut of Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn who looked a bit nervous, while Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Govinda, Sanjay Dutt, Katrina Kaif, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan walked with poise.

Among Bollywood stars who cheered for them with the audience was choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan, Bollywood actors Preity Zinta, Sushmita Sen, Amisha Patel, Amrita Arora, Twinkle Khanna, Malaika Arora Khan, fashion designer Manish Malhotra, filmmaker Boney Kapoor with his wife Sridevi and two daughters, and cricketer Yuvraj Singh.

For the show, the clothes were designed by designer duo Rohit Gandhi-Rahul Khanna, Ashish Soni, Gavin Miguel and Rocky S, among others.

I am too shy to walk the ramp: Twinkle Khanna

Both her mother Dimple Kapadia and hubby Akshay Kumar have sashayed down the ramp numerous times but Bollywood actress Twinkle Khanna says that she is too shy to do it.
'I am too shy to walk the ramp. I am not at all interested. All I like is to sit back and watch Akshay, my mom or my friends doing the honour. You will never see me walking the ramp,' Twinkle said at the inaugural show of HDIL India Couture Week that started here Monday.
'I am happy as an interior designer and that is something I am best at. I would like to stick to it,' she added.
Dressed in a fuchsia short dress, Twinkle looked gorgeous. Her presence at the event was due to her jewellery designer friend Farah Khan.
'I am here to cheer for her. She is a friend and an excellent jewellery designer as well,' Twinkle said.

Bollywood glamour will add to India Couture Week

It will be a six-day star-studded extravaganza. The second edition of the HDIL India Couture Week will see top notch Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan walk the ramp for the fashion pageant that kicks off here Sunday.
The Oct 11-16 event will see superstar Amitabh Bachchan walking the ramp for designer duo Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla's inaugural show. Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Govinda, Ajay Devgan and Katrina Kaif are expected to walk the ramp for Salman Khan's Being Human show Oct 13.
Then, filmmaker Karan Johar is making his fashion debut at the event. The maker of super hits like 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' has teamed up with designer Varun Bahl to showcase men's couture range on the last day.
Since Karan Johar's muse is Shah Rukh Khan, the Bollywood superstar will sashay down the ramp along with his wife Gauri Khan.
Bollywood's young brigade Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan are also expected to walk the ramp.
The couture week is an initiative of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), which annually stages two editions of the hugely successful Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) in New Delhi.
Other designers participating in this event are Monisha Jaising, Pallavi Jaikishan, Varun Bahl, Manish Malhotra, Manav Gangavani and Suneet Varma.
Unlike WIFW, the couture week is not a business-driven event but more a celebration of the Indian cultural heritage in a grand manner. Hence emphasis is given more to ramp decoration and creating a grand ambience to give an extravagant touch to the event.
'This is not a buyer-oriented event. Here the emphasis will be more on individual clients rather than on large buyers. We expect individual clients to conduct one-on-ones with designers to place their orders,' FDCI president Sunil Sethi said.
'Couture is all about extravagance and this gives an opportunity to the designers to add to their creativity by lending more drama and grandeur to the ramp,' he added.
Talking about the celebrity quotient, Sethi said: 'This year, the glamour quotient is at the peak in the couture week. These couture czars will surprise you with their collections while Bollywood celebrities will mesmerise you on the ramp.
'Full entertainment is guaranteed here.'
Apart from the glam and glitz, the event will also be a testing time for Monisha Jaising to prove her skills as a couture designer as she is mainly known for her pret line.
However, Sethi is confident about her skill-set. He said: 'She is one of the finest designers of the country and I am sure she will present a scintillating collection.'

Akshay given more importance than Sanjay

Sanjay Dutt is not impressed with the promos of Blue. Even though he is the protagonist of the film, Akshay Kumar, who plays the villain, is getting more coverage. He has now refused to promote Blue as the promos feature Akshay Kumar more than him. This idea was apparently that of T Series’ head, Bhushan Kumar who wanted to highlight Akshay’s presence in the film. Sanjay was further hurt when Tony D’Souza, the director of Blue, talked about casting Akshay and John Abraham in his next film and not Sanjay. Sanjay apparently called him up and even said that he was hurt over it. Tony is now trying to see where he can put Sanjay in the film. Sanjay is also missing from the promotional song of Blue, Fiqrana. Tony however, has no clue why Sanjay didn’t turn up to shoot for the song.

Sanjay is now promoting his other film, All The Best with Ajay Devgan.

‘Blue’ promises never-seen-before visuals and stunts

Akshay Kumar says when “Blue” director Anthony D’Souza approached him for the underwater thriller, the first thing he asked him was “Are you capable of making the movie?”. Touted to be India’s first underwater film, which is said to match international standards of filmmaking, “Blue” promises to bring with it some never-seen-before visuals and stunts.

“The first thing I did was to look straight into his eyes and ask him - ‘Do you actually think you are capable enough of making a film of this scale, genre and setting? You may say that you want to shoot the film in space or on the moon, but saying something and doing it are two different things. So how will you actually shoot the film?.”

As things turned out, D’Souza had done his homework well in advance and showed some of his work from the past, which included certain advertisements he had directed as well as some groundwork on “Blue”.

“Honestly, it all led me to at least start lending an ear to him. I became further interested in knowing how he was going to execute ‘Blue’,” Akshay said.

“After all there were going to be extreme stunts in it and that too under water. Then Tony (D’Souza) also showed me the work of the DOP (director of photography) Pete Zuccarini.

“He is the same guy who has also shot ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. He even made me talk to him and once I did that, I was quite satisfied that at least Tony had his heart in the right place and he had done his homework well.”

Once on board, Akshay wasn’t too worried about the fact that a film like “Blue” had never been attempted before on the Indian screen.

“I am sure that it would be legendary in its own way. Let’s see how the box office treats, but while doing the film we went all out for ‘Blue’. Making a film like this is no joke in any case.

“With the backdrop of a treasure hunt to it, it involves real sharks and all. I had to go through some training, take diving lessons and earn a certificate for myself because without that you are not allowed to enter sea.”

But that’s not all. Akshay had to get back to reading after years — but this time under water.

“Can you beat that? I had to read books around underwater. Tony made me do so much for this film. It was further hard work because there are minimal special effects. In fact, not a single shot has been taken against a green screen.

“My cameraman, Peter Zuccarini, who is famous for underwater swimming, also helped me a lot. I thought I knew swimming so it would be easy but this man taught me how to ‘belong’ to underwater. That’s the kind of encouragement I was looking for.”

Also starring Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta and Zayed Khan along with Katrina Kaif and Kylie Minogue, “Blue” is produced by Dhillin Mehta and has music by A.R. Rahman. It is set to release Oct 16.

Akshay flies to Mumbai to celebrate his birthday

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, who turned 42 Wednesday, completed his shooting in Italy before schedule to be with his family here on his birthday.
“Akshay wanted to ring in his birthday with his family. He doesn’t want to miss this at any cost,” said a source close to the actor who was shooting in Italy for Sajid Khan’s “House Full”.

“Akshay was missing them very much while shooting in Italy. Sajid understood Akshay’s feelings and saw to it that the shooting gets wrapped up in advance so that Akshay can fly down to Mumbai and celebrate his birthday with his family,” the source added.

Meanwhile, his wife Twinkle has planned a quiet party for family and close friends.

While the past two years have been extremely lucky for Akshay, in 2009 he had to face setbacks in “Chandni Chowk To China” and “8X10 Tasveer” — both the films were rejected by audiences. But he managed to strike back with “Kambakkht Ishq”.

His forthcoming films include Anthony D’Souza’s “Blue”, Priyadarshan’s “De Dana Dan” and Vipul Shah’s “Action Replay”.

Akshay Kumar touches his parents’ feet every morning for success

Bollywood megastar Akshay Kumar, who recently starred with Sylvester Stallone in “Kambakkht Ishq”, owes his success to touching the feet of his parents every morning.
He told CNN: “I would say my success lies at the feet of my parents because that’s been my biggest strength and that’s what we Hindus believe.”
Kumar is quoted as giving a piece of advice: “Every morning before you go to work just touch your parents’ feet and go ahead in life.” He has reportedly told this mantra to a lot of people and claims that they have also been successful.

Akshay Kumar has a huge aura around him: Mandira Bedi

Popular actress and TV host Mandira Bedi says she got a chance to experience the “huge aura” around Akshay Kumar while shooting with the Bollywood superstar in South Africa for the forthcoming adventure reality show “Khatron Ke Khiladi-Level 2″.
“He (Akshay) has a very huge aura about him. There used to be this deadly silence whenever he came in. Though he would joke and stuff with us, at the end of the day he was he and we were who we are,” Mandira said.

She will be seen performing daredevil stunt on the show. She says Akshay’s presence was highly inspirational.

“When I saw the first season of the show, I felt that there could be no better choice of a host than him. I enjoyed his sense of humour, I liked how he dealt with situations, how he inspired the contestants. I was lucky to have experienced it.

“He had a quirky sense of humour, yet he was motivational, so inspirational. He himself has done so many stunts and is actually very strong. So even when you see him, you just want to be better - in that sense, he is very motivating. I like him so much more after I have experienced it,” she said.

“Khatron Ke Khiladi” is the Indian version of internationally popular show “Fear Factor”. It requires contestants to perform a series of dangerous tasks and whoever does them all walks away with a cash prize.

Mandira, who had bagged the title of being India’s first AXN “Fear Factor” winner, says she herself approached the producers of “Khatron Ke Khiladi”.

“While watching season one, I used to wonder ‘Why am I not in this show?’. I was shooting something else that time but I really wanted to be a part of it. For the second season, it so happened I called Endemol (the producers) and said that my dates are free now.

“I was probably the only crazy one to have called them and said: make me a part of this show. I think it’s just great to be able to do something that prepares you for any kind of situation in future,” she said.

The show helped her in realising the biggest fear of her life.

“I have come to realise that my biggest fear is facing failure - it is more than the fear of height, more than the fear of water and more than the fear of creepy crawlies, little animals, which I don’t like. And that’s what drove me to do the stunts,” she said.

There was one task that Mandira felt was a little too tough to handle, but she managed it well.

“For one task, my head was put in a box which had breathing holes in it and it was closed. They put a nose clip, gave me goggles and gave me ear plugs and then they threw on my face Madagascar hissing cockroaches - they were the size of my finger.

“It was disgusting. And they went psss…psss..psss. It was a very bad feeling. We had to try and get out of it after a long procedure. It was probably three-four minutes long, which felt like an hour. I did the task because I was determined to go down the show trying, not crying,” she said.

Mandira will contend with beauties like Sushma Reddy, Carol Gracias, Shonali Nagrani, Shveta Salve and Anushka Manchanda among others on the show that premieres on Colors Sep 7 at 9 p.m.

Akshay wins the bet….

Akshay Kumar, who is busy shooting for Sajid Khan’s House Full, took up his fitness trainer and driver’s challenge to perform a stunt in real. The bet was that Akshay run right in the middle of the busy traffic of London lane. Thus apna Khiladi Kumar started running.
A unit member said, “We all started hooting and shouting that he will not be able to do it. The public would block his way.” But iron-will Akshay would have none of it, as he dodged through the zooming traffic in full speed. “Watching Akshay run, his fans started following him. They wanted to know if he is the real Akshay Kumar. Some who recognized Akshay even invited him for lunch,” said the unit member.
Akshay won the challenge hands down. Now that does not come as a surprise, does it?

Akshay overjoyed as court fine Bengali Copycats of Namaste London!

On Tuesday morning the appeals court in Kolkata ordered that the entire box-office collections of the Bengali film Poran Jay Jolaye Re, be deposited in the court. The film which was released a couple of months ago to a rousing welcome in Bengal, is said to have so far collected whopping figures at the box-office.
By depositing the entire collection at the box-office, the producers Venkatesh Films of the Bengali film stand to lose a substantial amount of money.
Says Vipul, “They’ve to deposit every single penny that the film has collected. The judgment of the appeals court says that the ENTIRE box-office collection of the Bengali film be deposited in court. It is historic in terms of violation of copyright infringement. To know the court can stop a film is a clear signal that plagiarism can be fought. The judgment will now be a reference point for all plagiarism cases. It was needed. Every filmmaker contemplating plagiarism will now think twice.
” The alleged copyright violators of the Bengali film can now appeal in the Supreme Court.
As for the money that the court has confiscated from the Bengali film’s collection, it is now legally a part of the damage suit that Vipul chose to file.
“However I don’t want any monetary compensation. That wasn’t my intention. I wanted to make a strong case against copyright infringement. The honorable court has done the needful. I think its victory for all us filmmakers. We used to make a joke about copyright laws, by saying copyright means the right to copy. I think the joke has now ended.”
Akshay Kumar who’s the co-producer of Namaste London has decided not to sign any film that he knows to be an illegal copy.
Says Akshay; “By God’s grace all my films seem to be original. Even Vipul’s Action Replay, which some people think is copied from elsewhere (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) is an original. People who spread these rumors should be careful. Copying films is as serious an offence, as accusing an original work of being a copy.”

Akshay Kumar freaks out in London, parties hard in Brit Pubs!

Parties and Akshay Kumar have always been miles away from each other. Akshay is known to follow a strict regime of going to bed at 10 and waking up early in the morning to exercise. During parties, he has always been rather reserved and prefers to stand alone in the corner of the room, with a juice glass. But he seems to have undergone a transformation during his shoot in London.
While Akshay still refrains from drinking, his extroverted side has come out completely. His co-star from Housefull, Arjun Rampal, would take him to pubs in London for boys’ night-outs, whenever their families weren’t around.
During the wrap up party, Akshay was seen having a fun time. He went to the dance floor and was earlier dancing with Ritesh Deshmukh on a song from Housefull, but later when his song, Jee Karda (from Singh Is Kinng) started; Akshay took the mike from the DJ and sang as well as danced. A lot of people were surprised to see Akshay change like this. But hey, no one’s complaining!

Akshay Kumar finally completes 12-year-old film

A 12-year-old film finally got completed this week, thanks to its leading man Akshay Kumar’s determination not to have a single film in the cans.

This week after completing a schedule of Sajid Khan’s “Housefull”, Akshay Kumar sent Deepika Padukone packing and called producer-director Shabnam Kapoor to London to complete the long-pending “Purab Ki Laila Paschim Ka Chaila”, now called “Helloo India”.

Shabnam Kapoor flew to London and shot with Akshay Kumar for almost a week before he flew out to Italy Thursday for the next schedule of “Housefull”.

With the completion of “Purab Ki Laila…” which also stars Namrata Shirodkar and Suniel Shetty, Akshay prides himself on being the only leading man in Bollywood who has no films in the cans.

Interestingly this would be only the second film in Akshay’s career directed by a female. “Sangharsh” directed by Tanuja Chandra was the first.

Akshay Kumar cycles away to fitness

Akshay Kumar was in London recently. The actor who was shooting for Sajid Khan’s film, Housefull, was so busy with the shoots that he was left with no time for his workouts. So the actor came up with another way. He started cycling to the location of the shoot that was two hours by car. Salman Khan has also been known for his cycling habits. Maybe cycling is the best way to keep fit in these busy times

Balle balle Hard Kaur getting jiggy with Akshay

Anything for Akshay Kumar; that seems to be Hard Kaur’s mantra these days. The Punjabi singer was recently asked to cut short her US tour and head to London immediately. Why? Because they had just got a day’s permission to shoot at London’s busy Picadilly Square and Akshay also had only one day to do it.
“Yes, we had to take a flight back home from Los Angeles, where I was performing. I am heading to London to shoot a special promotional song with Akshay Kumar for the film Hello India. It is a bit hectic for me, but I don’t mind,” says Hard Kaur on the shoot, which is shot from 23 August to 30 August.
She says that she cut her tour short, but admits it’s for a ‘bigger cause’. “It doesn’t matter whether I am cutting short my tour. We will be dancing on the streets of Picadilly Square and other than fitting into Akshay’s busy schedule; we also had to keep in mind that you cannot get permission to do a bhangra on the streets in London. It requires a lot of permissions and they got just one day.”
Hip hop with Eminem, pop with Pussy Cat Dolls and now Bhangra with Akshay, must say Hard Kaur is providing the right mix of entertainment to the audience.

Akshay goes ‘Blue’ in the neck!

Before you start thinking how the calm actor lost his cool, let us tell you that the suave actor actually got “Blue’ inked on his neck for his upcoming underwater action caper “BLUE’!
Produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. and directed by debutant director Anthony D’Souza, “BLUE’ has sure spiked up everyone’s curiosity with its promise of breathtaking underwater sequences, thrills, adventure and fast paced action!
Akshay Kumar plays the character of a rich businessman who is obsessed with money and thirsts for more. He plays a driven man who does not hesitate to flaunt his arrogance and status.
Based on the oceans, the significance of “blue’ doesn’t end here. He even owns a business called “Blue Shipping and Fisheries’!
The director Anthony thought it would be a brilliant idea to have “Blue’ tattooed on the back of Akshay’s neck as it would add that extra edge to his character. And it was sheer presence of mind to call Akshay’s character “Aarav’ as he had already inked his son’s name on his back!
Looks like Akshay, has once again proved his dedication to his craft and his penchant for perfection!
