The 'real' Satyajit Ray - caught on camera

He took Indian cinema to the world stage. But very few know that Oscar-winning film director Satyajit Ray while being a perfectionist was almost an ''autocrat'' when it came to filmmaking, right from scripting to camera handling to direction.
A rare series of photographs depicting the "real" Ray - the man and his passion - are currently being depicted at an exhibition hosted by the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Bangalore. Titled "Satyajit Ray: From Script to Screen", it displays a suite of photographs by Nemai Ghosh who was closely associated with Ray. With 101 photos, the month-long exhibition was inaugurated by Jawahar Sircar, secretary in the union culture ministry on Tuesday evening.
"Satyajit Ray is a film institution. Nobody can take his place. The exhibition is an attempt to discover the man and his work. We're grateful that Ghosh made an attempt to capture some of the most interesting moments from his life," Rajiv Lochan, director of NGMA, told reporters. Narrating his close association with Ray, the director who made films like "Pather Panchali", Ghosh said, "I was lucky. I came in touch with Ray during the beginning of my career in photography in 1968. I saw him closely while he was at work. Be it during the shooting schedule or while writing his scripts, he was like an autocrat. He took control of the entire cast and crew."
Most of the photographs at the exhibition depict Ray deeply engrossed in his work during the shooting of his films. Many of the film frames that Ray would sketch before proceeding with a shoot were snapped up by Ghosh and these photographs are now on display. "These are rare moments from Ray's life and his works. He belonged to a rare breed of filmmakers who was a complete perfectionist. I spent hours with him, trying to know the real man the world knows as Satyajit Ray. My photographs are pieces of understanding of the real Ray," added Ghosh.
Ray, who shifted to filmmaking from advertising, directed 37 films, including feature films, documentaries and shorts. With his debut film "Pather Panchali" (1955), a modern-day Bengali classic, bringing into light rural life and its struggles, Ray brought worldwide attention to Indian cinema at large. Apart from an Oscar, Ray was honoured with several national and international awards. He passed away in 1992.

I want to carry on acting in Bollywood: Giselle Monteiro

Brazilian model Giselle Monteiro, better known as Harleen Kaur from Saif Ali Khan starrer 'Love Aaj Kal', is keen to continue working in Bollywood films.
"I want to continue acting in Bollywood and will start shooting for 'Purani Jeans' soon," said Monteiro, who walked on the ramp in Delhi for the first time on the second day of the Wills India Fashion Week.
The 19-year-old model, who walked twice in the day for designers Kavita Bhartia and Ranna Gill, was more than happy to be the part of a fashion show in India.
"This is my first ramp walk at WIFW and I am glad to be working with new designers and new collections," said Monteiro.
Talking about the difference between modelling in India and abroad, she said, "India is a different market altogether and the designs here are so colourful. I am happy to have been accepted in the fashion circuit here."
Gill, who showcased her 'I am Every Woman' spring summer 2010 collection at the WIFW, said that she likes Monteiro so much that she asked her to be the showstopper for her.
"I loved Giselle so much in the film that I asked her to be the showstopper for my show and she said 'yes'," said Gill.

I do not want to repeat myself: Urmila Matondkar

Bollywood beauty Urmila Matondkar who seems to be on a self-imposed sabbatical from films says that she does not want to walk the beaten track and repeat the kind of work she has already done.
The 35-year-old actress, who has appeared in very select films in the past few years, was in the national capital today to walk for designer Jaya Rathore's bridal collection on the last day of The Wills India Fashion Week here.
"I have reached a stage in my career when I do not want to do the kind of films which I have already done or act in films which are not worth my while," said Matondkar.
The actress, who shot to fame with her role in 'Rangeela' in 1995 was last seen in 'Karzzz' last year opposite Himesh Reshammiya.
Talking about her stint on the ramp, Matondkar said, "I have always liked walking on the ramp because it involves style and glamour and I do identify with Jaya's designs, so I agreed to walk for her."
The actress believes that when a celebrity endorses a designer's collection, it does increase the glamour quotient a tad bit.
"If the designer is talented, her creation will attract attention automatically. And if a celebrity endorses the clothes that does increase the glamour and attraction little bit," she said.

Ranbir, Katrina end WIFW grand finale in style

Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif sashayed down the ramp at the grand finale of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) for designer Rohit Bal, bringing down the curtains of the five-day event in style.
Dressed in an embroidered white sherwani, Kapoor on Wednesday night managed to steal the hearts of many girls in the audience, who couldn't stop gushing about the star's chocolaty looks. Pretty Katrina Kaif, attired in a short white dress, looked like a Barbie doll. Another highlight of the show was a live performance by Orissa's Prince Dance Group that recently won the dance reality show "India's Got Talent".
Since Bal is always associated with grandeur, the sets reflected flamboyance and style. The glass ramp had gold lotus flowers underneath. The main show area was draped with golden curtains. Complementing the ambience perfectly were the clothes that talked about the Mughal era when India was the land of maharajas (kings). The collection was appropriately called Yasas, which means grand in Sanskrit.
Talking about his collection, Bal said: "The collection is a reflection of incredible talent that we have in India in terms of artisans and craftsmanship. The line is an ode to India's rich heritage." "It is about India, which was once known as the 'Golden Peacock'. Through this line, I am bringing that golden era back to India," he added. The collection had a mix of brocades, velvets in the pre-Mughal and Mughal designs like long and short anarkalis, sherwanis, jodhpuri pants, dresses and long coats. The collection will also be retailed through Wills Lifestyle outlets across India.

Kareena Kapoor's upcoming movie 'Kurbaan', a romantic thriller

Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor promoted her upcoming movie 'Kurbaan' at a gala event here last evening.
Set in the United States, ''Kurbaan'' is a romantic thriller with terrorism as its backdrop.

Kareena said that the film provides a balanced dose of love, intensity and emotions.

"''Kurbaan'' is a very different kind of film, it is more like an English movie. As far as the issue of tagline is concerned, I can say that it is because the film contains lot of intensity and emotions, it has gritty," said Kareena

The film tries to depict the post bombing effect on the daily lives of Muslim population living in the US after September 11 attacks on the World Trade Towers.

On this score, Kareena said that though the film deals with militancy, it is a romantic thriller.

"It has nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks on World Trade Centre. Though it has terrorism as a backdrop but it is love story," she added.

She also promoted this film on a private FM radio station.

Directed by a debutant Rensil D''Silva, the film stars Saif Ali Khan, Dia Mirza, Kiron Kher, Vivek Oberoi and Om Puri.

Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant have composed the music for the songs penned by famed lyricist and screenplay writer Prasoon Joshi who is also renowned in the world of advertising and marketing.

The film is slated to release November 27.

One film at a time is ideal, says Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan

Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has said that he believes in doing one film at a time, which he considered an ideal formula.
He said this while speaking at an event to launch the Idea GSM services here today.

Bachchan, who will be seen playing the role of Lord Ram in director Mani Ratnam''s upcoming film ''Ravana'', shared candid moments with mediapersons on the occasion.

He has just wrapped up shooting for the film with wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

"Well ''Ravana'' is nearing completion. I wrapped the shoot. We have the post-production work going on. Next month, I am gonna start shooting for Ashutosh''s next film. So these are the films I am working on right now. I like to work on one project at a time," he said.

The film ''Ravana'' has been shot in south India and in some parts of Sri Lanka.

The movie was initially scheduled to go on the floor in the first week of October.

Karan Johar's film to create 200 jobs in Sydney

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar's Hindi remake of "Stepmom" will be shot in Sydney and will create 200 jobs for people in the Australian city, said Virginia Judge, minister assisting the Premier on the Arts.
"This movie will take Sydney to Bollywood and an audience of more than one billion people. This is the first Australian production from one of Bollywood's most iconic filmmakers Karan Johar," said Judge Tuesday in a press statement.

To be directed by Siddharth Malhotra, the film is inspired by director Chris Columbus' 1998 hit drama "Stepmom", a heartwarming tale of two women - divorced Susan Sarandon and the new woman (Julia Roberts) in her ex-husband's life - and the problems they face to find a common ground of understanding.

"We are excited to showcase the very best that Australia has to offer and we hope to bring back some of the infectious spirit and charm that has become synonymous with Australia and Australians," said Karan, who is producing it under his banner Dhama Productions.

The Hindi remake stars Kareena Kapoor and Kajol and it will be extensively shot in Sydney.

"A film-friendly place with the best locales worldwide all in one city and suited to the requirements of my script. Besides, one needs to work with good people so what better place than Sydney," said Malhotra.

Dharma has hired Sydney-based TEMPLE as the Australian production company.

"Karan Johar is India's iconic filmmaker and represents the modern professional brand of Indian cinema. His company's decision to film in New South Wales (NSW) will not only take Indo Australian film links to a higher level but will also provide opportunity for Australian films and stories to develop collaborative links with India.

"Dharma filming in NSW is the ultimate compliment to Australia from Bollywood and as a filmmaker I am hoping this will result in deeper collaborations and co-productions between India and Australia," said Anupam Sharma, filmmaker and Head of the Australian production company Films and Casting Temple.

Relive bond of friendship with 'London Dreams'

Massive stage settings, rock concerts and music as a binding factor, Ajay Devgn-Salman Khan starrer "London Dreams", which releases Friday, relies on the bond of friendship more than its rock background.
Produced and directed by Vipul Shah, the movie stars Asin Thottumkal in the female lead, while Akshay Kumar will be seen in a cameo. Rannvijay Singh and Om Puri too feature in the movie.

" London Dreams' is a drama about two friends and their relationships, their roles, individuality and problems," Ajay said.

Added Asin: "It is a musical with a lot of emotions and twists in the story. But it's something that heavily relies on music."

Shot extensively in Paris and London, the story revolves around childhood friends Arjun (Ajay) and Mannu (Salman) who have a music lineage in their family history.

Arjun dreams of being on stage as a performer to live up to his grandfather's unfulfilled ambitions while Mannu has little interest in the instruments of his father, a music teacher.

Arjun's determination takes him to London where he forms a band with Priya (Asin) and others. But his friend Mannu tries to make his livelihood as a wedding band performer in the village.

Arjun eventually invites Mannu to London to complete his band contrary to his own belief that the latter can create a competition.

But Mannu surprises him by turning out to be an entertainer. With his unique style, he becomes more popular with the audiences leaving Arjun envious. His insecurity increases when he realises Priya is smitten by Mannu.

The band embarks on a three-city tour where Arjun deceives Mannu into promiscuous sex and illicit drugs. As the tour concludes, the band heads to London to perform at Wembley Stadium where Mannu comes to senses and chooses the righteous path and supports his friend.

"London Dreams" has managed a good buzz, courtesy the big names associated with it.

Noteworthy is that the songs in the movie have been shot like live concerts.

The movie is releasing with another-big budget venture "Aladin".

Promotions of films a test of patience: Bachchan

Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, who is currently busy promoting his film "Aladin", says that movie promotion is not only an art but also a test of one's patience.
"Promotions of films has now become an art, an exercise in management, a test of patience and an ability to be able to answer the same questions in and out with the same intensity and conviction that you may have expressed in the previous interview," Amitabh posted on his blog.
Amitabh also said that he admires journalists relentless pursuit for exclusives.
"They are all around you waiting in anticipation for their turn to arrive, to be able to turn on their microphones and cameras, to put on that TV anchor demeanour and strike out. I have admired their relentless pursuit for that exclusive, their determined effort to get something out of their subjects which has not been covered by the other rivals, present merely inches away," he wrote.
Further praising journalists, he wrote: "The speed with which they (journalists) all operate is incredible. How they devise the look of the interview, what would need to be shown as a clip to enhance the program, the reference material of the past, the music and the editing of the material they have, the headlines that need to be created and then finally the presentation on the broadcast.
"...But there is never ever a complaint, an objection to a delayed request and neither is there need to bring out competition at the street level. There is a deep understanding and respect for each other. A desire to share information and to see that it is disseminated in a manner that would be the requirement of their seniors."
Releasing Friday, "Aladin" is the modern version of the fantasy story and also stars Riteish Deshmukh and Sri Lankan actress Jacqueline Fernandes.

Ranbir, Katrina to walk ramp for Rohit Bal at WIFW?

Bollywood stars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are expected to walk the ramp together for the first time for designer Rohit Bal's show at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.
Bal will bring the curtain down on the fashion extravaganza Friday with his show and Ranbir and Katrina, who will be seen together in the forthcoming romantic comedy "Azab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani", will be his showstoppers.

"Ranbir and Katrina are both great friends with Rohit. They will walk the ramp for the first time together for his show to promote their film 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani'," a source said.

Directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi, "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani" is slated for a Nov 6 release.

'Basra' will be out of the box: Abhay Deol

NAs an actor he loves to experiment and as he turns producer with “Basra”, Abhay Deol promises to be high on content. He says the action thriller will not only keep audiences on the edge of their seats but also make them think.

“There are three genres -- romance, comedy and action. They are mainstream inherently; so what I’m doing is taking a commercial genre and within it experimenting a little bit,” Abhay told IANS in an interview.

The film is going on the floors early next year. Abhay has roped in Navdeep Singh of “Manorama Six Feet Under” to helm the project that will feature him along with Shahana Goswami and another girl whose name has been kept secret.

” ‘Basra’ is high on content, but a good dose of action sequences will make it edgy and pretty dark as well. In other words, it is a mainstream movie but also has something that will make people think and keep them on the edge of their seats,” he said.

“The thing about action films is that they are high on drama in terms of action sequences, have songs and other things, but content is secondary. For me, the idea was to get something that has content so that the action has some meaning. That’s when ‘Basra’ came in,” he added.

The 32—year—old was launched by his uncle Dharmendra with “Socha Na Tha” in 2005. He then went on to prove his mettle with films like “Ahista Ahista”, “Manorama Six Feet Under”, “Ek Chalis Ki Last Local”, “Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd” and more recently “Dev D”.

When asked what motivated him to don the producer’s hat, Abhay revealed: “I had bad experiences in the past, with ‘Manorama...’ being the classic example where the director did his job — he made it well, actors gave their level best but when it was the producer’s turn to distribute and market the film, it was nowhere to be seen.

“Not just ‘Manorama...’, I had been through this for some of my other films too. I realised that I need to protect my films because the director will move on, the producer will move on too but as an actor I will be considered a flop if things will not work.

“I also realised I need to protect myself,” he explained.

Along with that he also wanted to give a platform to new and dynamic directors to make films that have quality content.

“The idea was also to provide platform to filmmakers to make the kind of movies they want to make --probably high on content, low on budget. Let’s see where the formula goes and then I will take it from there,” said the actor, who was in the capital to attend the 11th Osian’s Cinefan film festival where two of his films, “Dev D” and “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!” were screened.

So does he plan to sign his cousins Sunny and Bobby Deol for his home productions?

“I would love to sign them for my films but it also depends on whether the role is right for them. So I don’t think I will be able to approach them for my first venture, but something in the future definitely,” said Abhay.

Right now the actor is excited about his upcoming film “Road” with Dev Benegal and his romantic film “Ayesha” with Sonam Kapoor.

Shilpa’s wedding date finalised

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty says that her wedding date has been finalised, but she will announce it only when her sister Shamita is by her side.

“I know everyone’s eager to know about the wedding date. All I can say is yes it’s been finalised and I will make an official announcement as soon as I know when Shamita’s coming out,” Shilpa, who got engaged to London-based Raj Kundra, posted on her blog.

Shamita is currently participating in the Colors’ reality show Bigg Boss 3. She is locked in the house with 10 more inmates and has no connection with the world outside. Shilpa says she missed her sister.

“It’s been a time of both joy and sorrow for me. The joy is obvious because Raj and I feel happy to take our relationship to the next level, but as most of you know my sister Shamita is still in the Bigg Boss house and could not attend. She doesn’t even know.

“The date was decided a week ago and we all came to the consensus that we should go ahead because another good mahurat (auspicious time) was a long way off. And considering Raj’s parents and relatives were down from London for a week, so it seemed convenient,” she wrote.

“I wanted to have Shamita there during this special moment, but I had to be considerate towards Raj’s family too. So for all those who wanted to know why I went ahead without Shamita, it was a difficult decision but this is the answer.”

Shilpa admits that when her sister comes out of Bigg Boss house, the news of the engagement will shock her.

“I know Shamita will be shocked... she’ll kill me. Missed her more than words can describe but I’m sure she’ll understand! Can’t wait to show her my ring,” she wrote.

So far Shilpa has not commented on her sister’s stay in Bigg Boss house. But now she says that she is proud of Shamita.

“I’ve never commented on what I think of her in there, but just want to say she’s been the pampered baby in our house. It made our whole family so proud to see her have no airs and do all the chores with no qualms,” wrote Shilpa.

“She’s never cooked in her life and I saw her make rotis. I felt terrible watching her cry on TV, but I am amazed to see her growth on the show. This will definitely make her a stronger person. So proud of the way she’s conducting herself with so much dignity.”

I'm talking to Hrithik for my next film: Vishal Bhardwaj

He carved a niche for himself in filmdom with non-starrers like “Makdee” and “Maqbool”. But composer filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj now says star presence is extremely important for a film’s box office success and that he is trying to rope in Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan for his next movie.

“I think stars are very important to reach out to the people. Along with that they are good actors as well. I think Shah Rukh (Khan) is a very fine actor, so is Aamir (Khan), Hrithik (Roshan), Saif (Ali Khan) and even Shahid (Kapoor),” Bhardwaj said.

“If the audiences love them and they don’t mind coming to the cinema halls to see their faces and their costumes, then that’s good because we can tell a story through them,” added the director who teamed up with big stars for “Omkara” and “Kaminey”.

He made his directorial debut “Makdee” (2002) with Makrand Deshpande, Shweta Prasad and Alaap Mazgaonkar. The only big name in the cast was Shabana Azmi.

Two years later, Bhardwaj came out with his highly acclaimed movie “Maqbool”, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s famous play “Macbeth”. It didn't boast of a star line up either -- Pankaj Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Tabu formed the cast.

But his next directorial venture “Omkara”, again based on Shakespeare’s play “Othello”, was bejwelled with big names like Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Vivek Oberoi.

His latest hit “Kaminey” too had Bollywood stars Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.

Now Bhardwaj is trying to sign Hrithik and Priyanka for his next venture. “I am in talks with Hrithik for a film but nothing is confirmed at the moment. However, Priyanka is confirmed for that project,” he informed.

The 49-year-old started his Bollwyood innings as a composer for Gulzar’s “Maachis” (1996) followed by movies like “Satya” (1998) and “Chachi 420” (1998) before taking on the director’s mantle. He has proved his versatility as a music composer, singer, writer and filmmaker.

When asked what among these gives him maximum creative satisfaction and enjoyment, Bhardwaj said: “Enjoyment keeps changing. When you are making a song and it turns out to be very good, then you enjoy that process and that gives you creative satisfaction.

“Similarly, when you are making a film, you keep struggling on it for seven-eight months to set it right and finally when you see the result then that too gives you creative satisfaction and enjoyment. Satisfaction, happiness, enjoyment are all very momentary. They keep changing,” he said.

Bhardwaj was in the capital to attend the 11th Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival and said that such festivals are imperative so that movie aficionados can see entire films without any censorship.

“People need to see the entire films. Normally, the censor board cuts half of the film; at least there is some place where we can see the film without censorship,” he said.

He also feels that censorship should be a personalised thing. “We should be our own censor boards. It should not be imposed on us. This censor board came from the British because they didn’t want the Indian movement and Indian struggle to be seen by others, but somehow laws in our country don’t change,” he rued.

Asin spends a quiet birthday

Asin Thottumkal, whose back-to-back promotional campaigns for London Dreams left her exhausted, ushered in her birthday quietly with a few friends and family members. She says it was the most “peaceful and happy birthday” of her life.

“Actually I hadn’t slept at all. I had been working non-stop for London Dreams for the last one week with just three-four hours of sleep. Anyway I’m making up for the exhausting week with the most peaceful and happy birthday of my life,” said Asin, who turned 24 on Monday.

Asin brought in her birthday with a quiet dinner on Sunday night with her close friends. “It was eight of my closest friends at dinner. We had a ball. At midnight they made me cut a cake. I felt 12 years old again.”

Earlier during the evening Asin arrived home to a big surprise.

“When I opened the door the entire house was done up with balloons by my parents, just like they used to do for my birthdays when I was a child. I had to burst quite a few balloons because there was no room to even walk. I’ve never felt happier,” she said.

On her birthday the actress gorged on food and has regained all the weight that she had to lose for her role in London Dreams.

“I had to be much thinner for my character. Now in 24 hours I think I’ve regained all the weight that I lost for London Dreams I’ve been gorging non-stop on chocolates and chocolate cake. And there’s still so much left,” said Asin.

The second—half of the day was devoted to the kids in her high-rise apartment. They all love their Asin didi and wouldn’t miss her birthday for the world.

“Fortunately, there was enough cake and chocolates to go around. So it was great fun. This is the best birthday I had. I woke up to god knows how many SMSes and missed calls. I can’t believe so many people remembered my birthday and cared about it,” she said.

But by far the best part of her birthday was provided by her parents. “When I saw the trouble they had taken over decorating my place, I decided then and there that I’m the luckiest girl in the world.”

“I’m big fan of Kareena”- Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif is going ga ga over Kareena and their bond. Recently giving an interview to a news channel Kat was excited to talk about her friend. Not many people know that both the vivacious actress shares the same manager too.

“She is very nice girl and I like her as well as her work. We even shares one manager and I am a big fan of her,” says Katrina.

There had been news in the industry about their cold war but with this statement of Kat, she is putting it all the rumours at rest. Kareena Kapoor was the unchallenged queen of B-Town at as far as her price was concerned. But Katrina Kaif started competing with her at every turn: with the price, the number of film, as well as endorsements.

“Whenever we meet each other she talks with me very nicely and I too love her company. I really do admire her as one of the great actress in the industry,” she states in the interview to the entertainment channel.

Looking at this statement it seems the cold war between the two actresses has ended. All’s well that end’s well is what we can say in this case.

Bollywood’s Big Break comes knocking on Bruna’s door

Brazilian model Bruna Abdullah is readying herself for her big Bollywood break with Karan Johar’s I Hate Luv Storys starring Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor.

Bruna, who was last seen in an item song, Rehem Kare, in Anubhav Sinha’s Cash, was chosen after Dia Mirza declined the cameo because she was already doing a cameo in Karan’s other film, Kurbaan. That is when director Punit Malhotra began to look for a newer face and settled on Bruna. Bruna is now improving her diction and dialogue delivery. Even though the role is a cameo it is still pretty essential for the film.

The news was confirmed by Bruna’s manager at first but later denied.

Now, I’ll play my age in films: Shefali Shah

Afer playing older woman on screen, the National Award wining actress Shefali Shah has made up her mind to play only her age in reel roles.
“I realised I have always played older women but now I have made a conscious decision to play only my age,” Shefali, who will be seen in her husband Vipul Shah’s film, said.

“I am doing a film with Vipul that he is producing and Barnali Shukla is (debut) directing called ‘Kuch Love Jaisa’ where I play my age, so I said why not push the envelope and even look the way I can,” added Shefali, who has lost oodles of weight.

The 40-year-old played Amitabh Bachchan’s wife in “Waqt: The Race Against Time” and Kasturba Gandhi in “Gandhi, My Father”.

Rajat Kapoor to play balding lover in new film

After playing suave, sophisticated characters, actor-director Rajat Kapoor will now be seen as a balding middle-aged man who falls in love with a girl half his age after talking to her online in the movie “I M 24″.
“Our next is a comedy ‘I M 24′ and Rajat Kapoor plays a 42-year-old balding writer in the film who falls in love with a 22-year-old girl through online chatting but lies to her that he is just 24,” Arindam Chaudhuri, who is producing it under his banner Planman Motion Pictures, said.

Directed by Saurabh Shukla, the romantic comedy also stars Ranvir Shorey, Neha Dhupia and Manjari Fadnis.

Planman Motion Pictures’ other projects include “Do Dooni Chaar”, which is the comeback movie of Neetu Kapoor that also stars Rishi Kapoor. The comedy will be made by first-time director Habib Faisal.

‘I was stuck with 10 sick people in ‘Bigg Boss’ house’

Not concerned about his unexpected elimination from the “Bigg Boss” house, Bhojpuri actor-producer Kamaal R. Khan says that despite being stuck with 10 sick people he had a good time on the reality show.

Kamaal, who was nominated for eviction, was asked to leave a day before the results of public voting were announced because of his intolerable, abusive and uncouth behaviour since the beginning of the show. But he is unperturbed.

“It was a very good experience. Even though I had to eat food like it was made in jail, had no contact with anyone outside and had to stay with 10 ‘beemaar’ (sick) people, I had a good time,” Kamaal said.

Asked why he refers to his co-participants as ‘beemaar’, Kamaal said: “Except for me, Ismail (Darbar) and Vindu (Dara Singh), everyone had a health problem. Someone couldn’t eat sugar or had to compromise on the salt - but three of us always ate everything.”

Kamaal was the most controversial inmate in the “Bigg Boss” house. He says whatever fights or arguments he had with his co-participants — Bakhtiyaar Irani, Tanaaz Currim and Poonam Dhillon — happened because their thinking and ideas clashed.

Kamaal says he had never expected to be thrown out of the show. He is, however, glad he could keep his promise with co-participant, item girl Sherlyn Chopra.

“I had promised Sherlyn that I will quit if she has to leave the house before I am evicted out of the show. So god ne meri izzat rakh li (god saved my pride). I am happy for her that she is inside the ‘Bigg Boss’ house,” he said.

He is also hoping to team up with German supermodel Claudia Ciesla, his inmate on “Bigg Boss”.

“I want to work with Claudia hundred percent! If she wants to work with me in future, I would love to have her in my film. She is a good actress and even a very nice human being, I feel,” said Kamaal.

“We spoke to each other about film projects and she said she wants to do some work in the Indian film industry. But we will talk about it after she is out of ‘Bigg Boss’,” he added.

Kamaal, who had earlier worked with Italian actress Rosa Catalano in his controversial film “Desh Drohi”, tried to pursue Claudia into a good friendship in the initial episodes of the show but gave up when she did not reciprocate. He is all set to begin shooting for “Desh Drohi 2″ as he plans to release it in April 2010.

“Bigg Boss” is currently in its third season. It started with 13 celebrities locked up inside a secluded house for 84 days and are kept under constant camera surveillance without any contact with the outside world. The show airs on Colors.

So far two elimination have taken place and now there are 11 people in the house.

Madhur Bhandarkar denies making biopic on Lalit Modi

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has slammed rumours that he is making a biopic on Indian Premier League (IPL) supremo Lalit Modi, saying he is not making any movie on cricket. In fact, he plans to take a break after the releae of “Jail”.
Rumour mills were abuzz that the three-time National Award winner is making a movie on the controversial life of Modi which will be produced by Percept Picture Company (PPC).

“I am not making any film on cricket. I don’t know where do these things come from,” Bhandarkar told IANS.

Rumours were also rife that the filmmaker would wield the megaphone to reveal the behind-the-scenes story of award functions, malpractices in hospitals and for a sequel to his 2006 movie “Corporate” with Deepika Padukone in the lead.

“If I go to a hospital to visit someone, the next day I get to read is that I am researching for a movie on the same, which is not the case. But I’m neither making any film on terrorism, award functions or hospital or a sequel to ‘Corporate’. I am just taking a break to think about what to make next,” he added.

1 lakh for used towel! Welcome to online celebrity bidding

Imagine shelling out Rs.100,000 for a used towel! A lot of people might, if the towel belonged to a celebrity. From clothes to cricket bats - Indians are fast opening up to the idea of bidding for celebrity memorabilia online.
"People have started buying such merchandise nowadays. And there are various reasons to it - some buy them for the resale value of an item, some go for it because they are a fan of the celebrity or some just want to give for charity," Deepa Thomas, senior manager (Pop Culture) at eBay, said.
Thomas says the craze among people for celebrity memorabilia started around 2005. A Salman fan paid as much as Rs.100,000 for his used towel. Thomas says her company decided to cash in on the demand in 2005 only and the trend is now scaling high.
"The money people are ready to shell out for such memorabilia's depends on how rare the item is and also on the brand power of the celebrity. Between 2005 -2008, ebay has earned Rs.1.8 crore through sale of personalised celebrity auctions," added Thomas.
Kolkata-based Riddhi Nair decided to bid for Olympic gold-medalist Vijender Singh's boxing gloves auctioned on choreographer-director Farah Khan's chat show "Tere Mere Beach Mein" because she was moved by the way his mother brought him up.
She spent Rs.17,800 for the item and says she will treasure it like "heirloom" forever. "I happened to see the repeat telecast of 'Tere Mere Beach Mein' where Vijender's mother spoke about how she never bought a new sari for herself for a long time so that she doesn't have to compromise on her son's training. It left me very emotional.
"I was touched to see his rising - from a remote village to being a world champion. It's very thought provoking. It is the perfect example for my daughter that she must always do something big in life," said Nair, a 33-year-old housewife.
Another motivation for Nair to bid was that the money will be transferred to Mumbai-based NGO Sneha, which works towards quality nutrition, education and health care of women and children. Nitin Jain, a 39-year-old investor, bid for Priyanka Chopra's autographed Gavin Maguel designer dress auctioned on Farah's show. He paid Rs.50,000 for the outfit.
Jain says he often bids for items if the proceeds go for charity, but also had a special eye on Priyanka's dress as his 15-year-old daughter is a huge fan of the actress. "Recently, there were several items that were auctioned on 'Tere Mere Beach Mein' - the chat show on STAR Plus. We had bid for many of them and were, in fact, the second highest bidders for Bipasha Basu's shoes. But my daughter is a Priyanka Chopra fan - so she also wanted it," said Jain, who is based in New Delhi.
Other items sold through the show include Shahid Kapoor's cap for Rs.28,500, Kareena Kapoor's blue dress for Rs.22,300, Yusuf Khan's cricket bat for Rs.60,750, et al. Selling celebrity memorabilia also makes business sense for celebrities themselves at times, says small screen actor Sachin Sharma, who launched a web portal called sbuy two months ago. TV and movie stars can auction their items through the site.
"There are many celebrities in India who don't get their due. And when they land in tough times and need money, they can turn to such auctions. I had a friend from the industry who wanted to sell his car but wasn't getting the right price from the dealer. But he struck a much better deal with a fan," said Sharma, who was seen in "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii".
Sharma's website has already had 300,000 hits in two months, he claims it is evidence to the demand of such items nowadays.

Celina Jaitley fractures her hand

Celina Jaitley met with an accident recently while shooting for her film Shreemati in the Maldives and ended up with a plaster cast. However, she had no time to recover and she was asked to report for the shooting of Chai Garam in Thailand soon after. Thorough professional that she is, Celina gave the shot despite the pain, so that the dates would not be wasted.
Celina’s friend said, “She showed her professionalism by agreeing to remove the cast and shoot. She did not throw a tantrum or try to postpone the shoot according to her convenience but stuck to her commitment. Celina did not want to put her crew into any kind of trouble and didn’t want to disappoint her team by letting them down.”

Kareena-Saif get cosy

Recently, Kareena and Saif publicly said that the two were ready to take their relationship to the next level. While this bit of news had everybody excited about an impending wedding, what the couple really meant was that they were now prepared to kiss on screen and in full public view as well. The couple was recently spotted getting cosy in public unmindful of the shutterbugs around.
This latest development however, comes as a bit of a surprise considering Kareena was embroiled in a rather embarrassing kiss-and-tell controversy a few years ago with former beau Shahid Kapur. Kissing on camera seems to be the latest fad in tinsel town.

Aishwarya, Abhishek get naughty in ad film

In their first appearance in a television commercial Bollywood celebrity couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan will show their mischievous side.
The two have teamed up for a soap brand and will be seen getting cosy in the commercial.
The couple has reportedly been paid a hefty amount to feature in the ad film which will be on air this month.
This is their first ad together though the two have featured as a couple in films like "Kuch Naa Kaho", "Dhai Akshar Prem Ke", "Umrao Jaan" and "Guru". Their next is Mani Ratnam's "Ravan".

Rahul Mahajan surpasses Rakhi Sawant's popularity

Rahul Mahajan, son of slain Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan, has surpassed the popularity of item girl Rakhi Sawant as he has received 40 percent more entries than her for his televised 'swayamvar'.
Mahajan, who has decided to find his life partner through NDTV Imagine's reality show "Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega", has received 16,755 entries via phone, email and SMS, said a press release from the channel.
"I am happy with the response and I'm looking forward to finding my life partner with whom I can begin a new journey," said Rahul.
From professionals like doctors and engineers to students and artists, women from all walks of life within the age-group of 22 to 26 years have sent in their profiles with the hope to win this 34-year-old's heart. The entries closed Wednesday.
Delhi girls have topped the list with 5,063 entries followed by Mumbai, from where 4,188 entries have been registered.
Entries from cities like Kolkata, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Nagpur and Ahmedabad poured in. NRI girls from Dubai, London and US too sent in their profiles.
The show, likely to go on air in November, will search for an ideal bride for Rahul. This will be done with a nationwide audition process followed by multi-city meetings and interviews with shortlisted participants.
This would be a second marriage for Rahul, who became a known name in the entertainment sector post reality show "Bigg Boss 2".
He was earlier married to Shweta with whom he tied the knot in 2006 but parted ways with her last year.

Now I'm just a credit title: Amitabh Bachchan

He sleeps for 'four to five hours' a day, burns the midnight oil to blog and has a packed shooting schedule.
But 67-year-old megastar Amitabh Bachchan insists he is neither the busiest person in the Hindi film industry nor an important part of any of his projects.
"I don't think that is entirely correct. I just do whatever is offered to me. I do films, I am now doing television ('Big Boss 3')," said Amitabh shrugging off the busy bee title.
"If you plan your day and time, you can find time to do all these things. If the body responds, it's fine. But sooner or later it's going to pack up, so might as well work while it's working," said Amitabh who squeezed in enough time to reply to 1207 SMSes that he received on his birthday last week.
Over four decades of excellent cinematic presence has made him a brand. Doesn't that overshadow others in a film?
"I don't think that is entirely correct. May be in the early years, they (audiences) came to watch my films because I was in it. But now I am just one of the credit titles. I am not that important," Bachchan said in an interview.
"I am a part of the crew and the cast. Even in my early years, I used to think that. I think the product itself is more important. It's the film that is going to make you or your name or give you visibility. If that goes wrong then everything goes wrong. So one must work as a team so that the product works," he explained.
The actor stays awake till the wee hours to write his blog.
"That is like a compulsion. I feel very vacant and I feel as though I haven't done justice to my day if I don't write the blog because there are now a few hundred people who are regular. They wait to know about me and they want to talk to me," Amitabh said.
"I feel somewhat guilty if I don't write the blog every day. So even if I am late, I make sure that I put something down," he added.
Doesn't his family object to his blogging addiction? "They are always saying, 'Please don't write your blog. Get off your blog'," he said.
"You have all kinds of funny things happening to your neck and shoulder because you're all the time bending down on your laptop. But that's okay," added the Big B, as he is fondly called.
Strenuous working hours and regular blogging hardly leaves any time to catch up on sleep but the actor is content with what he gets.
"I get about four to five hours' sleep and that's okay," said the veteran, who was seen this year only in a cameo in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's "Delhi-6".
Amitabh was here to promote his upcoming film "Aladin". Releasing Oct 30, it is a contemporary take on the classic fairy tale and he stars in it as the Genie.
Produced by Sunil Lulla and Sujoy Ghosh, the film has been directed by Ghosh. It also stars Riteish Deshmukh in the lead opposite debutante Jacqueline Fernandez. Sanjay Dutt appears in a negative role in the film.
Apart from casting magic in the film as the Genie, the sexagenarian has also performed action sequences in "Aladin". He says the only way to attempt stunts at his age is by keeping "fit".
"You have to keep fit. Some of the action scenes are really tough and they are physically very draining. But now they have wonderful gadgetry which can make you jump sky high and do all kinds of things. We use that, but even doing that is strenuous. If you are not prepared to do all that, then it doesn't work," he said.
Despite wife Jaya, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya all being actors, the Hindi film industry still has not seen the entire family together in a film.
When asked about it, he said: "I don't know. Somebody will have to design a project like that. If they do, we'll be very happy to do it."
Apart from "Aladin", Amitabh's other projects include "Paa", "Teen Patti", "Rann" and "Johnny Mastana".

'Jail', most difficult role of my career: Neil Nitin Mukesh

Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh was hesitant initially when director Madhur Bhandarkar asked him to do a full monty for a scene in the upcoming flick 'Jail', which he says is the toughest film of his career.

"I was first hesitant because I knew that millions of viewers would be watching it. I did it because I have the highest regard for Madhur, who was very confident with the script and convinced me to go ahead with the scene," says Mukesh.
The actor was in the capital recently for the film's promotion along with director Madhur Bhandarkar and co-actor Manoj Bajpai.

Neil Nitin says he was initially apprehensive about doing the scene because he thought it might cause embarrassment to his parents. "It is the role my parents would be proud of," he says.

"The film follows a strict chronological order from first to the last scene to enable the audience to understand the emotional quotient of the character. I had to go through a method acting approach and lived almost like an inmate to feel the kind of psychological changes that a prisoner undergoes inside the four walls of a jail," says the 26-year-old actor.

For the grandson of the legendary singer Mukesh, "This is the most difficult role" of his career.
The film 'Jail' revolves around Parag Dixit (Neil Nitin Mukesh), who has everything in life - a good job, a pretty girlfriend and a beautiful house.

Parag's world turns upside-down when he finds himself inside the four walls of a prison due to a series of unfortunate events around him. The film, which also stars Manoj Bajpai and Mugdha Godse, is set for release on November 6.

While adding that the USP of the film is its director, he says, "I was always keen to know what actually happens inside jail. Only through this film I came to know that the world of jail is totally different from what we perceive."

Neil made his debut in films with the 2007 crime thriller 'Johnny Gaddaar' in which he was cast in a negative role. Though the movie did not do well at the box-office, his acting was appreciated. Again, he got rave reviews for his role in 'New York', a film on terrorism.

"You feel like a caged bird. Jail is actually a place where criminals are sent to improve and come up as better citizens. However, while shooting for jail, I learnt that sometimes when a person tries to improve upon, he is set back by the environment of the jail and hence, what was meant to be imprisonment for betterment becomes a bad nightmare," says the actor.

Neil also had to lose weight to fit into the role. "The director asked me to lose the extra kilos to not look like a rich brat but a simple, common man of the street. I really had a hard time doing this film," he says.
Neil's upcoming projects include films with Pradeep Sarkar and Abbas-Mustan while his 'Tera Kya Hoga Johnny' is also in the pipeline.

Shatrughan, Rekha to reunite on screen after 30 years

Shimla, 23 Oct 2009: Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha and Bollywood diva Rekha have called a truce after 30 years of "strained" relationship as the duo is set to reunite on the big screen in an upcoming romantic film.
'Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna hai' directed by Ramesh Talwar is Sinha's home production under the banner of 'Shotgun films' which is "a mature romantic movie and ready for release shortly," the actor said here.

"She (Rekha) went offensive on my some unintentional comments and we did not talk for 30 years before reuniting for the present movie," he said adding that his wife Poonam Sinha played a crucial role in breaking ice in our relationship
Despite hectic political engagements, the actor said that his love for films remains intact.
"I have not said goodbye to the movies...I manage time to do some selected ones," the actor said.
Sinha, who was among early Bollywood stars to venture into politics, joined BJP in early 80s at the highest peak of his film career.
When asked how he managed to divide time between shooting for the film and politics Sinha said, "I found time in between BJP decision not to renominate me for Rajya Sabha from home state Bihar for the third term and entering fray for the Lok Sabha poll to complete the shooting quietly."
"Through my hard work I manage to strike a balance between the real and reel life," he added.

When Katrina gifted underwear to Nana Patekar!

Ajay Devgn strikes again. And this time the prankster's victim was co-star Katrina Kaif. Recently, on the sets of Prakash Jha's Rajneeti, Ajay took Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee into confidence and pulled a joke on his leading lady.

The trio told the actress that it was Nana Patekar's birthday and they said that since he was in a bad mood, Katrina ought to wish him and present him with a gift box. Little did she know that the cake box actually contained some funny items.

A source from the unit reveals, "This prank was Ajay's brain child and he took everyone on the sets in confidence. The trio walked up to Katrina and told her it was Nana's birthday and that they were throwing a party for him. They told her that she had to dress modestly in Indian attire, as Nana was very particular about how women dressed."

Kat hurriedly dressed up in a salwar-kameez and walked up to Nana with a box given by Ajay. "When Nana opened the box he was shocked to find old underwear, a single chappal and a fake moustache as a gift. Kat was horrified."

A source close to Kat adds, "She was embarrassed and turned beet red. Everyone including Ajay, Arjun and Manoj started laughing hysterically. Nana finally told her it was a prank and that she should be more careful with Ajay from now on."

Ranbir ke prem ki gazab kahani

The actor and his girlfriend fight and are not on talking terms at the moment

There's trouble brewing between young lovers Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. The youngest couple of B-Town have been having a lot of fights. The last was on Sunday night, after which Ranbir left for the Rajneeti outdoor in Bhopal.

Deepika and her beau were also fighting last week, and she almost didn't come for Karan Johar's fashion show. They were seen together at the event, then later at designer Shabina Khan's bash but the undercurrent of stress was obvious to everyone.

Too young?
Sources close to the couple say that they are currently not on speaking terms. An insider says, "Everyone knows that Neetu never really approved of Deepika for her son even though Ranbir tried and succeeded, to a large extent, to make his mom thaw towards his girl.

The OSO girl somewhere felt that her beau wasn't making a commitment to her, even though she was fully committed to the relationship because he was waiting for mommy's approval." Also, Ranbir feels that he is too young to get engaged. Fact is, Imran Khan, who is the same age as the Kapoor boy, made it official with his girlfriend Avantika Malik.

Sometimes, things go wrong even though both people involved in the relationship have the best intentions. While Ranbir often drove out of town to meet his lady love, while she was shooting in Karjat with Farhan for Karthik Calling Karthik, Deepika flew in twice from London to spend a few precious hours with her 'Sid.'

In recent times, though, the fights have outnumbered the special moments together. Everyone around them is wondering if this is the beginning of the end. But a friend of the actress says, "They are together. Fights happen in every relationship. This is the eighth time that everyone's convinced they are heading for a split. But it's all fine. They've patched up."

How Warners survived the wild ride on Spike Jonze's 'Wild Things'

If they gave out Oscars for marketing campaigns, you could pretty much hand out the trophy right now to Warner Bros. marketing chief Sue Kroll, who almost single-handedly managed to find an audience for "Where the Wild Things Are," the new family movie that turned out not to really be a family movie at all.

In fact, it would be hard to imagine a movie that had a weirder opening weekend than "Wild Things." Adapted by Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers from the much-beloved Maurice Sendak book, the film grossed $32.7 million, despite the fact that families with children -- normally an overwhelming portion of a family film's core audience -- made up only 43% of the audience.

According to Hollywood conventional wisdom, "Where the Wild Things Are" looked like a disaster in the making. Over budget and beset by endless delays, the movie kept being pushed back on the Warners schedule, picking up a nasty case of bad buzz after word leaked out that children had fled an early test screening in tears, put off by the dark tone of the film.

Even as the film made its debut over the weekend, rival marketers were skeptical of its chances, saying, with plenty of justification, that "Wild Things" was a tweener -- not conventional enough to be a mass-appeal family film, but too associated with the soft blanket of childhood to appeal to Jonze's natural audience of twenty- and thirtysomething bohos, hipsters and cultural mavericks. Faced with two radically different audiences that rarely converge, most studios would have simply "cheated" -- passing the film off as squeaky clean enough to pass muster with middle-American families in the hopes of getting as big an opening weekend as possible.

But amazingly, Kroll managed to thread the needle, attracting a sizable amount of both audiences, who were prodded into the theaters by the studio's emotion-laden marketing materials and a raft of glowing reviews. (Not every critic liked the movie, including my colleague Kenny Turan, but the ones who liked it really liked it, giving Warners a lot of impressive quotes for its ads.) What impressed me the most is that Kroll was a realist, but one who was willing to think outside the typical marketing box -- coolly assessing the film's strengths and doing her best to amplify them.

She acknowledges that the film's early screenings weren't especially auspicious. "The younger children, the ones under 8, were not as engaged -- in fact, they were a little bored," she told me today, on the phone from London. "We were a little surprised to discover that the people who had the best experience with the movie were adults, even adults without children, and teenagers. So we knew our job would be complicated, but we just made an intuitive decision that we would come up with ads that would emotionally connect with these people."

The resulting campaign had a warm, handmade feel to it, which is pretty much the opposite of most campaigns for family films, which conk you over the head with every dazzling special effect or comic zinger in the movie. Warners simply decided that if young adults loved the movie, they would grab them. Kroll says that 70% of Warners TV ads were on shows aimed at teen and adult-oriented audiences.

"We didn't want the movie to look like one of those slick family films," she said. "We realized that this film got inside people in a very personal way, so went for something that, in terms of our ads, felt a little smaller, more special and more specific, as if to say -- this is a movie that's really for you."

Still, going into its release, the movie had received a lot of negative word of mouth. How did Kroll and her Warners marketing team overcome all the negative vibes? Keep reading:

It's been a long, rocky ride for "Wild Things," which was in development for years at Universal without ever getting a green light. The studio finally put the project in turnaround in late 2005, apparently convinced that the story could never be made into a commercial film. Jonze, who had attached himself to the project several years earlier, took the property to Sony, whose studio chief, Amy Pascal, was a huge fan of Jonze, having released his previous film, "Adaptation."

However, Jonze's timing wasn't fortuitous. In early November, when he was shopping for a new home for the project, Sony released "Zathura," a Jon Favreau-directed film whose quirky, low-tech feel was eerily similar to "Wild Things." (One critic described "Zathura" in terms that would be an almost perfect fit for "Wild Things," saying: "In the enchanted limbo between waking and sleeping, 'Zathura' feels both real and unreal, like a dream you could shake off at any moment.")

There was only problem -- even though the studio adored the film and preview audiences were equally enthusiastic, "Zathura" was a bomb, having proven virtually impossible to market. Unwilling to dig itself the same grave a second time, Sony passed on "Wild Things," which ended up at Warners, which in classic Warners fashion recruited a pair of outside investors (Village Roadshow and Legendary) who were willing to take most of the financial risk. Even though the film ended up costing in the $90- to $100-million range, Warners is only in for 25% of the film.

Jonze was the kind of smart and visually stylish director that Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group President Jeff Robinov liked to bring into the studio fold, it being Robinov's long-term strategy to marry hip filmmakers to mainstream material, a plan that has resulted in such hits as Chris Nolan's "The Dark Knight" and Steven Soderbergh's "Ocean's Eleven" series (and such duds as the Wachowski brothers' "Speed Racer"). Still, the movie's production didn't go especially smoothly, with Jonze having to do considerable reshoots as he wrestled how to animate Sendak's furry Wild Things.

I'd be lying if I said that I loved the final outcome. The film is loaded with emo-angst, which is probably why it plays so well with 25-year-olds, still figuring out their way in the world. But for me, the endless kvetching of the Wild Things was all too reminiscent of one of my family's quarrelsome Passover seders. I'm with Slate's Dana Stevens, who wrote: "If I avoid taking my 3 1/2-year-old daughter to this movie, it won't be because the wild things would scare her. It'll be because their endless therapeutic workshopping would bore her stiff."

As it turned out, most critics were on the side of the Wall Street Journal's Joe Morgenstern, who called the film "a movie lover's dream." If Warners had released the film a year ago, when the Internet was full of bad buzz, it might have spelled disaster. But everything changed last March when the studio debuted a new trailer that dazzled the naysayers, myself included.

A pop music connoisseur and longtime music-video director, Jonze had brought the studio a CD full of music he thought captured "Wild Things' " sensibility. The Warners marketing staff fell in love with "Wake Up," a song by Arcade Fire. A friend of the band, Jonze helped persuade the group to allow the studio to use the song in its advertising. The new trailer spared us any of the film's nattering dialogue, simply melding Jonze's striking visual images to the song's uplifting melodies.

The trailer was a Web sensation, being passed virally around from one Arcade Fire fan to another. Warners also signaled its intent to go after a more diverse audience by putting the trailer up in front of a wide range of films, including "Land of the Lost," "Public Enemies" and "I Love You, Beth Cooper." The Arcade Fire trailer turned the film's image around, wiping away all the negative vibes with its vivid emotional appeal.

Ever since its appearance, Warners found that the film had a far more receptive audience, as this weekend's surprisingly strong opening has proven. "For the first time, we were able to convey to people in an emotional and articulate way what this movie was supposed to be," says Kroll. "It really helped reinvent the movie for a lot of people. So we're feeling really proud of taking a film that may not have been immediately accessible, but finding a way to make it work."

“The collection is called ‘A Tempestuous Affaire’ and is inspired from a piece of emerald. The gold shows how the cutting of emerald is done. It comes and glows into a beautiful emeralds so that is how it is,” said Gangwani.

Zayed Khan, who is featuring in the big-budget Bollywood film ‘Blue’, was the showstopper of Gangwani’s show, and said that being part of couture week was good as the best of the best pieces are showcased.

The international “Showgirl” makes her debut [as a musical guest] in to the Bollywood scene with the underwater action caper, which is the bigest novelty of the film.

Apart from that, “Blue” most certainly has an international feel to it, as it has promised throughout. It includes some of the best shot underwater sequences that has ever graced the screen. Even pre-release, a lot of hype had been created about the venture because of its claim of being India’s first underwater action flick.

The ensemble cast boasts of a list of biggies from the Bollywood industry like Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Zayed Khan and Lara Dutta. The present flavor of the industry, Katrina Kaif also makes an appearance in the film, in a small cameo and manages to scorch the screen considerably. Going by the looks of it, this Diwali release is certainly set to hit the jackpot, as it makes for a wholesome package of entertainment.

Movie Review: All The Best

All The Best: Total time pass flick

Starring: Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu, Mugdha Godse, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar and Mukesh Tiwari

Director: Rohit Shetty

Settled in Goa, Veer (Fardeen) is a singer by profession and is making a daily living out of his older brother Dharam’s (Dutt) sent pocket money. Veer has even lied to Dharam that he is now married and aiding him in all his lies is his buddy Prem (Ajay Devgan). Though in reality Veer is in love with Vidya (Mugdha) but her father hates him. Prem however is married to Jhanvi (Bipasha) who is looking after his ancestor’s outdated gymnasium. Things go awry for Prem and Veer as they end up losing a lot of money and are neck deep in debt. Just then Dharam takes a detour to Goa en route his travel to Lusoto. With his sudden arrival, Veer and Prem don’t get time to cover up their lies and Dharam mistakes Jhanvi to be Veer’s wife and Vidya to be Prem’s girlfriend. What chaotic situations it all leads to with multiple characters dropping in to make their problems more complicated forms the rest of the film.

All The Best is undoubtedly the most entertaining film amongst the 2009 Diwali releases. Rohit Shetty has yet again got it right when it comes to keeping his audience laughing without resorting below the belt humour and vulgar interludes. Witty one-liners and hilarious sequences involving Dutt and Johnny Lever have you laughing out loud. However, the first half isn’t that gripping. But the second half covers up for it with confusions multiplying and each actor also contributing his comic best. The length however appears stretched as it runs around 2 hours 25 minutes. Some gags could have been shorter one feels. Pritam’s music is perfect for the film.

Ajay Devgan showcases his improved comic timing and towers above the rest. Dutt too is in top form and entertains. Fardeen is passable. Bipasha and Mugdha don’t have much to do but be a part of the chaos which they do ably. Johnny Lever finally after a long time gets a meaty funny part and he utilizes this opportunity to the maxim. Sanjay Mishra and Ashwini Kalsekar make the proceedings funnier.

It’s a total paisa vasool entertainer and worth a Diwali outing. Go for it guys and forget your recession worries!
